July 17, 2009 ~ Prayer Closet (of sorts)

My hospital room is a hub for chaos. No other way of seeing it, really. With five full teams of doctors on the case, each one coming in at the whim of their schedule, and a bevy of nurses and hospital workers coming in at all times of day and night with new medication, blood draws, respiratory treatments, etc., well you can imagine how difficult it is to find a moment for oneself whether you want to have a quiet moment or a reflective prayer, or praise. Virtually impossible.
Here’s what I discovered yesterday on accident: if you are in the restroom when they come, they will leave you in peace for a few minutes and return a bit later. Eureka!!! I have now discovered my prayer closet! It may not be the lovely, reflective atmosphere I’d desire, but still it serves to get away from the chaos of activity and find a moment for just me and the Lord. And I craved that so much!
When your heart is drawn to spend time with Him, there will always be a way to do it. It may not always be ideal, but because He longs to spend time with us even more than we could know, He will make a way for us to be near Him and to hear His voice. Maybe your life is chaotic right now too. Look around for that opportunity to steal away a few precious minutes to spend alone in His presence. You won’t believe what a difference it will make to calm the chaos!

Your ability to encourage folks in the ‘chaos’ is more than amazing. It’s supernatural!! When setbacks pop up unexpectedly as they will on your roller coaster ride I think the devil is ticked because what he meant for harm (your illness) has had the opposite effect that he wanted…..masses of people who might be distracted by other things, problems in their own lives are agreeing as one in Jesus Name for your healing and it gives me joy to think of him as the snivling imp that he is being frustrated that his plan is not working. HE WAS AND IS DEFEATED IN THE PRECIOUS NAME OF JESUS, OUR PRECIOUS JESUS!!! AMEN!!!
I’m glad you have found a place where you can have some peace Aunt Lori! We are praying so hard for God to heal your body, and to give you rest from all the hospital chaos. We miss you so much and love you dearly! I think about you all day, and really hope you feel better.
Truly God is working in every single way..
i been underlying emotional distress this past weeks, after reading your blogs it made me realize God is working his way for me to be near him and to hear his voice..
and the message was clear.. Lori you are my blessing!
God Bless,
Long live…
How awesome for you to find a place to pray amidst it all!

Lori,
This post reminds me of the story I read about John and Charles Wesley’s mother. With 19 children she was having an extremely hard time finding a private place of communion with the Lord. She finally solved the problem by sitting on the porch and throwing her apron over her face. She taught her children that when they saw her apron over her face, she was talking to God. They left her undesturbed…in her “quiet place.”
We will be in our “Prayer Place” for you tonight at Bethany Church. We will be praying that the preciousness of the Lord’s presence will be yours and your family’s as you walk through these days.
Your brother in Christ,
