A laugh is a smile that bursts.

~ Mary H. Waldrip

The other day John and I were watching TV and the news had a report on a new fitness craze called “Laughtercise.”  As best I can determine, it is simply doing yoga, or pilates, type exercises while laughing heartily.  At the beginning of the report we looked at each other with a cynical smirk.  Oh sure, that’s gonna work.  Uh-huh, another gimmick for another sucker who’ll buy anything.

Then, as we watched, we started to snicker.  We couldn’t help it.  Seriously.  We couldn’t contain it, and before we knew it we were both laughing with the workout instructor on TV, and the anchors of the newscast were all laughing too!  It was more contagious than measles.

Here’s a link to what we saw:  “Laughtercise”

Did you watch it?  If you did, I’ll bet you’re laughing right now.  You just can’t help it.

Now, I don’t know if it will give you rock-hard abs or not, but isn’t it great to share a laugh with someone?  You just know that it makes their day brighter and it improves your own outlook too.  It’s wonderful that God created us with an almost uncontrollable urge to share laughter.  And it is no accident that science has discovered that laughter provides us with a myriad of health benefits - God set it up that way.  So let’s see just how flawlessly perfect this plan of our Heavenly Father’s is:  our own laughter is beneficial for our own health, and it will also give those benefits to those that laugh along with us.  And they can’t help joining in!

We all want to make a difference in someone else’s life, and it’s good to know that it doesn’t always take a heroic measure, a lot of money, or a brilliant idea flawlessly implemented.  Give away a smile.  Offer a giggle.  Start your own contagious laugh train.  It’ll surely lift someone else’s spirits higher than they were before.

Who knows – maybe you really will laugh your abs off!

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.

~ Job 8:21
