October 14, 2008 ~ Cookie-Baking Day

My house is filled with the fragrance of shortbread cookies baking in the oven. I just woke up this morning with the desire to play with dough – mix it, roll it out, cut it up into cute shapes and bake it up for sharing around. I guess if I was a few years younger, I’d be playing with playdoh, but when you’re all grown up, you find other ways to channel those creative juices, don’t you?
When our sons were little, I think I had as much fun with those little plastic pots of colored dough as they
did. We’d sit at the kitchen table and roll it out, make pretend-cookies and other creatures and have the best creative time just playing around with that age-old child’s toy. It’s fun!
So today I felt like having some fun, and while I don’t have playdoh-aged kids around anymore as an excuse to participate in this kind of playful bliss, I did have butter and sugar and flour and vanilla. So I made some owls. They seemed rather appropriate for my celebration of autumn.
Aren’t they cute? Yeah, they’re a “hoot!”
